"The Microsearch Surface Area Calculator is a Windows program that allows you to calculate both the surface and planimetric areas for a piece of land. This calculation is based on the coordinates for a number of points on the land’s surface. Using these points, the Calculator first builds a Triangulated Irregular Network (TIN) model for the three-dimensional surface. Then, for each triangle in the TIN model, accurate three-dimensional mathematical (geodetic) methods are used to calculate the surface and planimetric areas of the triangle. The sums of the areas of these triangles are then the total surface and planimetric areas for the piece of land. Once you have calculated the areas for the piece of land, you can also calculate the volumes above and below a horizontal plane at a specified height."
