Sometimes the smallest notes contain the greatest idea. Information-dependent, knowledge workers form the core of the new economy. With exponential increases in the availability and circulation of digital data (email, web, office docs, etc.), information-overload has emerged as a significant impediment to productivity. Knowledge workers--educators, journalists, financial specialists, management consultants, lawyers, students--have to continually contend with the innumerable bits of information that are not only spread across multiple devices but are also lost in huge email accounts, unmanageable lists of bookmarks, and gigantic miscellaneous items folders. Experience suggests that knowledge workers typically only need small excerpts from larger documents. The pivotal Xerpts invention is the 'XBin' - a single hub into which one can easily drag and drop excerpts from multiple sources and retrieve them from multiple locations. Meta-tags are automatically extracted and saved with each excerpt, and the user is prompted for categories and keywords. The XBin accepts Xerpts from any windows application, including a browser, word processors and mail. Xerpts therefore enables an integrated experience for the user.
