Ever wondered what a Windows application would be like, if it was created by game developers? The Vulcan Portal is a free desktop application, which allows you to define yourself as a 3d talking person (with your own skin) and join a community on the Vulcan Orbiter. You can send and receive 3dVoiceMail, collect daily 3dVoiceNews on a growing number of subjects, open your cell door and participate in real-time 3dVoiceChat. Join skinclans and even download and play games! Games currently featured in the Portal are: The Valhalla Classics, the episodic 'speech adventure' requiring logical and lateral thinking and Timekeepers, the 'simplistically complex' platoon management game. Each game offers the first episode free with subsequent episodes based on a pay to play basis. You can also acquire (optional) pay to enable features to either, promote your own web site with a 'persona web page link button' or offer your own 3dVoiceNews service to the growing number of users in this unique community. This 'self upgrading', application has layered its functioning with 3d characters (thanks to Vulcan’s Mother3D technology) that communicate via dynamic synthetic speech in six languages, so all the text you type, is spoken out loud with perfect lip synch in real-time 3D. Requires DirectX 7 (or higher), 3d characters require a 3d graphics card. Portal will download and install Microsofts speech engine (if not present on your system). The Portals online features require registration (which is free) from the Portals website.
