Grafooey is a set of machine-independent C++ classes for a canonical grid-based handwriting recognition algorithm. The programmer has the option of supplying runtime definitions for alphabets in external files instead of within the code. As a demonstration of Grafooey's flexibility, PC-compatible example code and stroke definition files for both Arabic and English characters are supplied. The latter alphabet is similar to the one recognized by many late-model palmtops.
