The GreenTea (GT) platform is a generic runtime operating system that facilitates the P2P computing services by harnessing the existing idle computing resources on the network. GT is written entirely in the Java programming language. It runs on any Java-enabled computing platforms, such as PCs, Unix, Linux, and Macintosh. GT enables organizations to fully utilize their existing heterogeneous computing resources to meet their heavy-duty computing needs without buying expensive supercomputers and servers. This means that any computers in the organization can contribute to the supercomputing by using GT. GT is a total resource aggregation and resource-sharing platform. The resources include both hard resources (CPU, RAM, hard disk, network bandwidth, and so on) and soft resources (files, software applications and services, and so on). Not only does GT harness computing resources, but it enables give-and-take sharing of computing resources. In fact, any participant of the GT network is both a contributor and a beneficiary of the shared network computing resources.
