Socks2HTTP is a lightweight SOCKS proxy that tunnels TCP traffic through an HTTP proxy. SOCKS allows client programs to traverse firewalls on any port number and is used by many popular programs such as Napster, Gnutella, MSN Messanger, and CRT. Many companies restrict firewall traversals only to HTTP requests, disabling the SOCKS proxy. Socks2HTTP provides a miniature SOCKS server for the SOCKS client, completing its connection through an HTTP proxy. Socks2HTTP can also work with non-SOCKS-enabled TCP/IP client programs, including Telnet and FTP, if you use the free SocksCap32 utility found here. Version 0.36 added the ability to automatically select the HTTP method, fixed bugs for Napster file transfer, provided better performance, and added support for the HTTP POST method, allowing firewall traversal for practically all HTTP proxy servers. Version 0.85 adds support for NTLM authentication (MS Proxy), no-proxy firewalls, and a faster performing tunneling method. This is a 15-day trial demo; full version costs $24.95.
